In his earlier career James was a Banker focused primarily on corporate and structured finance initially in Auckland, then Hong Kong and later moving to Sydney where he led teams of bankers specialising in the health and aged care sectors.

James joined O’Connell Advisory in 2014 initially providing advice to aged care, disability services and health services organisations. He has since gone on to focus primarily on the provision of executive management services for a number of small independent Aged Care Providers. This involves providing a broad range of ‘head office’ type services (covering a range of aged care specific operational, financial and strategic disciplines) with James reporting as the CEO to the Boards of these organisations.

James’ detailed understanding of the relevant health regulatory and funding frameworks and specialist property development aspects, combined with his technical accounting and finance skills has also enabled him to provide advice on a number of other public and private projects involving the funding aspects of health services across the acute, aged, disability and mental health sectors.
